Is Your Dog Too Hot? Here's How to Keep Them Cool This Summer ☀️
Share
Summer is great for us — ice cream, beach days, sunshine. But for our dogs? It can be a lot. Especially if they've got a thick coat or a smushy little face (looking at you, bulldogs and pugs 😘).
So how do you know if your dog is overheating, and what can you actually do about it?
First — how can you tell if your dog is too hot?
Dogs can't sweat the way we do, so they rely on panting to cool down. But if you notice your pup panting heavily, drooling more than usual, acting sluggish, or just looking uncomfortable — it's time to cool things down, fast.
Keep their sleeping spot cool
One of the easiest things you can do? Swap out their regular bed for a cooling mat or elevated dog cot during the warmer months. Elevated cots let air circulate underneath your dog's body, which helps them stay way cooler than lying on a regular padded bed or (worse) the floor in a hot room.
Cooling mats are also amazing — they're pressure-activated, so no electricity or refrigeration needed. Your dog just lies down and it does its thing. Pretty cool, right? (Pun intended. 😄)
Fresh water, always
This one's simple but so important. Make sure your dog always has access to fresh, cool water — especially if they're spending time outside. On really hot days, you can even toss a few ice cubes in their bowl as a little treat.
Avoid the hottest parts of the day
Try to keep walks and outdoor playtime to early morning or evening when it's cooler. Pavement can get scorching hot in the afternoon — if it's too hot for your hand, it's too hot for their paws.
Create a cool zone indoors
Set up a shady, cool corner in your home with a cooling mat or cot where your dog can retreat whenever they need a break from the heat. Think of it as their personal chill-out zone. ❄️
Your dog counts on you to keep them comfortable — and honestly, a good cooling setup makes summer so much more enjoyable for both of you. Check out our cooling mats and elevated cots and give your pup the summer upgrade they deserve! 🐾
